Xue Fu Zhu Yu Tang
This formula was originally devised by a unqiue physician known as Wang Qing-Ren in which he recorded its use in his "Correction of Errors among Physicians" (Yi Lin Gai Cuo) in 1830. Wang was a 19th century physician who was known for his innovative skills that often challenged the status quo in Chinese medical thinking.
As post mortum cadaavery was prohibited in most of Chinese history, Wang (and others) often took advantage of mulated corpses after executions and war. This gave him an adantage in observing the internal viscera and tissues immediately after death.
During his observations Wang discovered that most of the corpses were filled with coagulated and blocked blood vessels mostly above the diaphragm and in the chest cavity.
This consistent discovery led Wang to investigate more and more into Blood Stasis as a major pathological pattern which was revolutionary in the development of TCM literature.
Xue Fu Zhu Yu Tang is a variant to the famous Tao Hong Si Wu Wan (Earlier Post), which activates blood and dispels blood stasis. The formula also contains herbs that help to sooth the Liver and regulate Qi as well as several herbs that act as envoys to direct the formulas actions to each of the three visceral facial sacks (Sanjiao).
This formula is clinically useful for a broad range of conditions due to blood stasis in any part of the body. In addition it is highly beneficial for elderly patients as blood stasis becomes more of a concern as we age. This formula is very beneficial for early stages of congestive heart failure and congenital heart disease.
